For the first time, Skoda offers a compact car that combines Škoda’s good practical qualities with the hatchback shape. With its fresh design, Skoda Rapid Spaceback dedicated to the younger customer segment. As is typical of Škoda, the interior of the new Škoda Rapid Spaceback offers a lot of space: though the exterior of the new model measures 18 centimeters less than the Rapid saloon, passenger space is just as generous as in the car’s ‘big brother’. The rear of the Rapid Spaceback offers the largest legroom (64 millimeters) and the largest headroom (980 millimeters) in its segment. Likewise, the trunk volumes are among the best figures in the segment, measuring 415 liters or 1,380 liters when the rear bench is folded down. A diesel engine is also expected, likely the 66kW/230Nm 1.6-litre 66TDI that consumes 4.2-4.3L/100km in the sedan. All engines are available with five-speed (diesel)/six-speed (petrol) manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.
As is typical for Škoda, Rapid Spaceback offers a lot of space, sets new standards for a number of “smart simple” ideas, superior security, interesting possibilities for individualization, low fuel consumption and excellent price / value, which means that the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback sets new standards in the strongest European segment. This tinted glass roof reaches all the way from the windscreen to the rear window, offering passengers an unobstructed view of the sky. Combined with the panoramic glass roof, the optional prolong rear window constitutes an additional design accent. In this solution, the tinted glass of the rear window reaches about ten centimetres further down the rear door than in the normal rear window. In connection with the panoramic glass roof, the dark tint of the glass surface reaches from the windscreen all across the roof and deep into the rear door. A black spoiler at the upper end of the rear window emphasizes the dynamic impression. Despite being 180mm shorter nose-to-tail, the Rapid Spaceback shares its 2602mm wheelbase with the liftback. Skoda says the hatch offers more rear headroom and legroom than its direct competitors, and has one of the largest rear cargo areas with the back seats upright (415 litres) or folded forwards (1380L) – though trails the dimensions of the liftback (550L/1490L).
